Choosing The Right Decor For A Gender Neutral Nursery

Many pregnant moms and soon to be dads are excited when they find out the gender of their baby when their little one is born. Waiting until your child is born to find out the gender seems to be extremely popular now a days. What's more popular is decorating your nursery in a gender neutral theme. There are many colors, patterns, themes and pictures to accentuate a gender neutral nursery. Choosing the right decor can be exciting but also a little overwhelming if you don't know where to start.

When beginning to decorate your nursery the first big decision to make is what color to paint the walls. It's easy to paint if you know the sex of your baby. Pink, lavenders and red tones for girls and blue shades for boys. But when you don't know the sex of your baby, the color palette opens up to include many different colors. Green or sage, chocolate brown, yellow shades, orange shades and even brown shades are all appropriate for a gender neutral nursery. Another option is to keep the walls white and add either a chair rail or pattern on the wall or even wall paper.

Another way to add to your gender neutral nursery is to pick a theme. This could be an animal theme, ocean or sea shell theme or a letter theme. You can pick up these theme related items at your local craft store or department store. When gathering items for a theme, pick objects, pictures and furniture in the theme you choose. This will make your decor have meaning and flow when looking at your gender neutral nursery.

The final decision to make regarding your gender neutral nursery is the furniture style. Do you want a classic nursery or a modern nursery? There are many cribs that come in a modern feel or a classic feel. You can put hardwood to make it more modern or add carpet for a softer look. Trim work shapes the room to be more classic and can be added by doing beadboarding, wainscoting or a chair rail.

Take your time when decorating your nursery and have an idea before you begin purchasing items. Before you know it, your little one will be sleeping away in a fabulous nursery.
