The Correct Way to Handle Baby Bottles

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Agustin Thornton" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'agustin-thornton/230274">Agustin Thornton

If you are planing on bottle feeding your new born or you already are bottle feeding your infant it is important that you handle the bottles correctly to avoid your baby from being unhealthy. You should want to do anything you can to keep your baby healthy. Keep your baby's bottles clean and stored in the fridge to prevent any harmful bacteria or germs that could cause stomach problems.

Wash all bottles, nipples, and bottle caps in warm water with a mild soap, or in the dishwasher. When you have washed the bottles rinse then and out them in boiling water for five minutes prior to filling them with formula or breast milk.

Prior to mixing the baby's formula you should boil the water that you will be using and let it cool. This takes the additives out of the water that could make your baby sick. Use a bottle only one time then clean it again using the same process.

If you need to take any formula out with your baby, be sure that it is drank by your baby within an hour if it is mixed or if it is breast milk. You could also use powered formula if you formula feed your infant and take the boiled water separately this will allow you to mix the formula as it is needed.

Opened formula doesn't keep for very long. If it is a bottle of unused formula it is good for 24 hours after it has been opened. Ready use formula that is opened is good for 48 hour after it has been opened. Powered formula is good for one month after it has been opened. Any formula that is not used in the bottle that your baby has drank out of should be thrown out so germs will not multiply.

How to Keep the Bottle Feeding Clean?

Author: <a target="_blank" title="TravisOl" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'travisol/67217">TravisOl

The most important and paramount thing while feeding the baby is the cleanliness of the given milk. It has to be clean and germ-free. Breastfeeding mothers don’t have to worry about it because their milk is perfect but mothers who use formula milk to feed their babies always have to think about the bottle sterilizing and teats cleaning.

Sterilizers
Mothers who decided to bottle feed their children must have an adequate bottle sterilizer to keep the feeding bottles always clean. There are bottle sterilizers which work by placing them in a microwave. These types are the cheapest and it is their greatest advantage but before using them you have to make sure that your microwave is clean, especially after cooking there some spicy food. If not, you have to clean it. And if you decide to go somewhere it will be a bit problematic to take the sterilizer and the microwave with you. Its portability is far from being perfect. The best choice but a more expensive one is purchasing an electric bottle sterilizer. It is very simple in use. First you have to wash the bottle then place it into a plastic tray and then place the tray into the sterilizer. Pour into the sterilizer some water – not more than is recommended by the manufacturers and your electric sterilizer will do the rest. There are also types of sterilizers which can work both as electric and microwave ones; this means you can put the plastic tray with the baby bottle in the microwave as well as in the electric equipment.

Cleaning
Before using any type of sterilizer you have to wash the bottle very thoroughly. There is a special brush made for bottle cleaning. A feeding bottle has to be washed in warm soapy water and the teats have to be cleaned with salt to disinfect them and peel the film of remained milk. And before sterilizing make sure that the teats and the caps of the bottles are not left on.

Some more suggestions
Sterilizing is not the only thing mothers have to follow to keep baby feeding germ-free. Formula milk can provide perfect conditions for bacteria to thrive if it stands in a warm place for a long time. If you bottle feed your baby you must mix the milk powder with water just before feeding and never give your baby the milk which was prepared for a previous feed. Formula milk has never to be made in advance, if you are going to have a long trip, take with you some warm water in a thermos flask and the baby powder milk and mix it when you need it. Your hands have to be washed well before making your baby’s formula. Every baby has to have his or her personal bottle, so never share it with another one, because it can be a good way to share germs as well. Containing more sugar than breast milk baby’s formula can become a real problem for your baby’s teeth – cause decay. To a void it you should never put baby to bed with a bottle giving him or her opportunity to suck the bottle for hours, because the sugary liquid flows over the baby's upper front teeth and dissolves the enamel. Bottle feeding is as safe as breast feeding if you follow the guidelines above and it gives your baby all the nutrients he or she needs.

Breast Milk Storage Bottle Can Help Store the Mother's Milk Safely

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Popsrisuk Posak" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'popsrisuk-posak/81235">Popsrisuk Posak

Breast feeding is one of the most important activities as far as an infant is concerned. This is so because the breast milk has a lot of proteins and antibodies that are very crucial for the infant. The milk helps him develop an immunity of his own.

Things to be kept in mind while storing breast milk
- The breast milk should be always stored in breast milk storage bottles that have sealable tops.
- Before the milk is poured into the bottles, it should be ensured that the bottles are properly sterilized and cleansed.
- The breast milk should be stored in small amounts and as per the requirements of the infant so that no milk is wasted.
- The milk should not be kept for more than 6 hours in room temperature, more than 6 days in the refrigerator and 6 months in the standard freezers.

Breast milk storage containers and bottles
Breast milk can be effectively stored in the bottles, which fit directly on the breast pump that you are using. After you pump your breasts you are just required to take out the pumping tubes, cover them with the bottle lids, label the poured milk and then put the bottle safely in the fridge. Many of the breast-pump carrying-cases come with built in cooler like compartments. They can be used for the purpose of storing the ice packs or the recently pumped milk bottles. If used optimally and properly, these cool the pumped milk till you come home and store it in the freezer or the refrigerator.

While selecting the breast milk storage bottles
When you go to the market you will find a plethora of breast milk storage bottles. The biggest question is how to select the bottle that will serve the best function. Bottles made from glass, stainless steel and/or plastic are easily available in the market.

The most important thing that you should keep in mind when selecting breast milk storage bottles is that how long you plan to store the milk. One of the milk storage options, the storage bags are especially meant for freezing. If you are looking forward to buy those bottle liners, which are disposable, then they may need additional protection for preventing leakage and possible contamination. If you would want to freeze the milk in harder containers, then it is best to opt for glass bottles and storage containers. This is so because they are least absorbent and thus provide the maximum protection. They allow the milk to expand when frozen.

Plastic containers versus glass containers
Ample researches have been conducted to find out which of the breast milk storage bottles are best - the glass ones or the plastic ones. Most of the studies claim that the glass bottles should be the first choice as they are better for the purpose of storing milk as they provide utmost protection from any plausible contamination. The second choice should be the hard plastic and the third should be the cloudy hard plastic.

The Correct Way to Handle Baby Bottles

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Laurence Heath" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'laurence-heath/206803">Laurence Heath

If you are planing on bottle feeding your new born or you already are bottle feeding your infant it is important that you handle the bottles correctly to avoid your baby from being unhealthy. You want to have a healthy and a happy baby. You should keep the baby bottles clean and store them in the fridge to stop any harmful germs from growing, the germs might cause some stomach problems.

Always use a brush to thoroughly clean the bottles, teats, and bottle caps. Boiling is a favorite method for sterilizing bottles once they are washed, but it is important to remember to boil the bottles steadily for a minimum of five minutes.

Before you mix the formula you must boil the water you will be mixing it with and let it completely cool. When the water is boiled it takes most of the additives out that could ham your baby. Use a bottle only one time then clean it again using the same process.

Never leave mixed formula at room temperature for more than an hour. So if taking formula out with you, either use a diaper bag designed to keep the bottles cold, or plan on feeding your baby within the hour. Another great option if you are formula feeding your baby is to use powered formula and take the boiled water separately this will let you mix the formula when it is needed.

Any formula that is opened will not keep very long. If it is a bottle of unused formula it is good for 24 hours after it has been opened. Ready use formula that is opened is good for 48 hour after it has been opened. Powered formula is good for one month after it has been opened. If your baby has not drank all the formula in their bottle, you need to throw the unused portion away, germs will go into the leftover milk.

Information on Glass Baby Bottles

Author: <a target="_blank" title="james dalton" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'james-dalton/12477">james dalton

In the past people relied on glass baby bottles to feed their child as there were no plastics available. They were the fixture of any parent who had a newborn child. With the development of plastics in the mid 20th century, it ushered in a new product and glass was pushed to the side. The basis of this article will look at the general information regarding the glass baby bottle, as well as the pros and cons in using them.

There are many people who feel as if glass feeders for babies are the best thing and should be the only thing that they use. This is based on the fact that glass is environmentally friendly and it can be recycled. This means it is renewable and if you are an earth conscious person then this would fit well in your lifestyle. The glass bottles are also very easy to clean and are very dish washer safe. If a plastic bottle is misplaced and the milk inside it spoils, the smell wont leave. This is not so with glass bottles. Retaining heat is a plus that glass bottles have over plastic, this means they can keep warm longer. If placed in extremely hot water, then it can be sterilized very easily

The glass baby bottles are not without their flaws and there are some cons associated with the use of these bottles. Another con associated with the bottles is that since they are made out of glass, they have the potential to break very easily. This means if a baby was to hold the bottle and drop it, it could break and shatter. People also state that if the bottle has a chip or a crack, small shards of glass could find its way into the baby?s food. This could pose as a serious health risk. At almost two times the cost of plastic, Glass is not cheap.

There is one controversy that is causing resurgence in the use of glass feeders. Polyurethane is the main product used in the creation of plastic bottles. There is research that BPA is used in the creation of these bottles and it is beginning to find its way into the food of the child. BPA has been found babies? milk and formula and can pose a health risk, even though people are not sure what the results could be. The chemicals contained in these bottles have some parents worried and you begin to see a shift of people going back to the glass. More people are becoming aware and this results in more people switching to glass.

Glass baby bottles have made a comeback in the 21st century and more and more people are investing in these products to ensure there baby gets the best quality product. There are some pros and cons associated with the use of these products, but the parents should weigh the risks and see the benefits to their child if they used the product. The controversy of BPA in plastic bottles can only reaffirm parents choice to switch.

6 Ways to Bust Up Baby Gas

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Cherie Stirewalt" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'cherie-stirewalt/66497">Cherie Stirewalt

One of the worst feelings you can experience is watching your child endure pain of any kind. So when you have to watch your baby deal with painful gas, you want to do whatever you can to stop it....fast. Gas is very common in infants and since crying is their only way to communicate, you are dealing not only with a gassy baby, but also an extra cranky baby.

So, why not try to prevent gas bubble buildup before it starts? Here are 6 ways to bust up baby gas.

Mom's Diet

If you are a mom who breastfeeds, be sure to avoid gas-causing foods such as:
* Caffeine (colas, tea, coffee and, yes, chocolate)
* Dairy (baby may be lactose intolerant)
* Nuts
* Broccoli
* Beans
Changing your diet could make a big difference.

All Bottles are Not Created Equal

If you are bottle-feeding, use bottles that are engineered to help reduce baby's intake of air. Some bottles have nipples that are too large, and baby will eat too fast. Then, some bottles have nipples that are too small, causing baby to suck harder and take in more air. Bottles like Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Baby Bottle contain an internal vent that eliminates the vacuum and air bubbles associated with other bottles.

Don't Forget to Burp

To avoid gas from moving into the digestive tract, remember to burp baby often (if you are bottle-feeding, after every 2-3 ounces, and if you are breastfeeding, after each breast). Try also to feed baby at a 45-degree angle or better. Three of the best burping positions are:

Over the shoulder. Place a diaper cloth or burp rag on your shoulder and place your baby right up on the cloth. Gently pat or rub her back to induce the burp. Don't pat too hard or you will cause baby to spit up all over you.

On the lap. Place diaper cloth on your lap and place baby on her belly. Gently pat or rub her back to induce the burp.

Over the hand.Hold baby upright on your lap and drape a diaper cloth over your hand. Support baby's chin in your hand and gently pat or rub her back.

Bust a Bicycle Move

Lay baby on her back. Gently grab her ankles and move her legs in a bicycling motion in order to get the trapped gas bubbles moving.

Formula for Disaster

Not all formulas agree with all babies. Some formulas contain hard-to-digest proteins that result in gas buildup. Simply trying a different formula like Nestle Good Start may work wonders. Good Start contains proteins that are broken down and easier for your baby to digest.

If All Else Fails

Sometimes gas is unavoidable. Even after you try your best prevention methods. You might want to try gripe water, a tried and true homeopathic remedy used for over a century. Gripe Water contains natural ingredients like peppermint, chamomile, and ginger that gently bust up the gas bubbles and soothe your baby quickly.

Don't watch your baby suffer one more minute. Try one, or all of the methods above and your baby will be on her way to gas-free in no time.

Purchase Kids Toys Carefully

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Alice Shown" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'alice-shown/81029">Alice Shown

Can you separate kids from toys? No, never. Being a concerned parent, your job is to get your kids toys that will help them in their all round development. You need to be very careful when choosing toys for your kids. Kids tend to play with anything they can lay their hands on, but you need to find out if the toy your child is playing with is safe.

How toys help in the development of a child

According to experts, a good toy helps in the development of children. Babies love to play with rattles, baby teethers, key rings and mobiles; these toys connect to the five senses and stimulate reaction from babies. The more brightly colored a toy is, the more kids love it. Make sure that the toys do not have sharp edges and are not made of toxic materials.

You can also teach toddlers to know quantity with the help of toys. Place two toys in one place and four toys in another, the kid reaches out for the four toys. There are toys which help kids to enhance their creativity; you can gift your child building blocks, colorful beads, and toy stamps for this. Floor puzzles help children to be patient. You can introduce your child to bath and tub toys for helping them get familiar with the concept of hygiene.

Young boys love to ride on toy cars and toy bikes, as they love to imitate their dads. Little girls love to play “mommy”; they love to have toy kitchenware and play with dolls and doll houses. Stuffed animals are also in high demand among young children.

Most importantly, never forget that toys are for fun. Your child should enjoy playing with the toys. Learning should be an experience gained in the course of playing and having fun. You can be your children’s playmate, to make playing a very enjoyable experience.

Where to get toys from

If you are looking for the right kind of toys for your child, then the best idea is to look online. You will find there are a large number of online stores which offer a number of kids’ toys. The best part of shopping for toys online is that you can see the toy and also know how it will help in the development of your child.

Find a toy that will keep your child happy. Choose a toy that is suitable for your child’s age. Surf the many categories of toys, like toys for toddlers, pre-school toys and toys for infants, and make a smart buy. Also look for the prices that are being offered and know how the toys will be delivered to you. Visit http://www.ebeanstalk.com

Reliable Ways to Baby Bottle Cleaning

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Sandra Wilson" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'sandra-wilson/158627">Sandra Wilson

Cleaning baby bottles could be one of the biggest challenges of bottle feeding aside from the cost and health factors. Good cleaning needs to be done everyday systematically and properly to be able to achieve desired hygiene for the infant. Usually, mothers find it hard to adapt to the hassles of baby bottle cleaning because of wrong practices such as leaving dirty bottles overnight using baby bottle brush that are too hard leaving bottles and nipples scratched. These will cause more harm to the infant as scratched baby nipples and bottles will lead to tearing off too soon or even leakages that might choke the infant.

It does not really matter if mothers will choose mechanical dishwasher or by hand in cleaning baby bottles. What matters is for them to conduct procedures accordingly to refrain from wasting time and resources such as soap, electricity and water. The best method to start off cleaning is to rinse off the baby bottle after each use. Caking and leaving a foul smell inside the bottle become the most difficult problem to tackle when cleaning. As you rinse, the bottle is assured of being milk-free hindering cheesing and developing of foul odor.

Do the rinsing with hot water before putting all the used bottles, nipples and other feeding supplies on a large basin with soap and water. This is the most economical and practical way since it will save you from the resources and would even allow you shorter time for cleaning. By doing this, bottles are already soaked while you are cleaning them one after the other. Using a moderately stiffened baby bottle brush, clean the edges and corners of the supplies where milk residue are most often found. It is also safe to use baby bottle brush with foam at the end in order to fully wipe off the bottom of the bottle inside. After the whole process, you may now rinse off the soap with hot water and put all feeding supplies into a rack for air-drying.

Most mothers, however, would opt to sterilizing baby bottles before air-drying or towel drying. Sterilization is prominent in areas where water supply is not sanitized or if the baby has deficient immune system. On the other hand, pediatricians advise nursing mothers to sterilize until the infant is two months old even with a sanitized water system. Sterilizing baby bottles is simple. Start off by filling out half of a pot with water and putting in all feeding supplies inside. Then, bring to boil this pot for five minutes ensuring enough heat for bacteria to dry. Watch out for the time since over sterilization may distort the supplies especially if they are made out of cheap materials.

Cleaning baby bottles and sterilizing them is a simple task for the mother who truly cares for the infant’s health. You may find this too taxing but eventually you will realize how it will save your child’s health and your pockets. Exert a little effort for a lasting benefit.

Totally Free Baby Stuff For Moms To Take Advantage Of

Author: <a target="_blank" title="Chona Mcnally" 'href="http://www.articlesbase.com/authors/'chona-mcnally/125529">Chona Mcnally

With so many expenses that you have to worry about, you could use a little help. Busy moms and moms who have to work within budgets know just how much something free helps. It is not just the money issue either; everyone loves to get free stuff. Even people worth billions of dollars love getting their free goodie bags at their big fancy parties. Getting free stuff through the mail for your baby is like Christmas.

So what can of free stuff can a mother get? Well, for starters, how about some free formula? Yes, I said free formula. There are many formula companies that would love for you to become their newest customer. So to win you over, they will send you a few free cans of formula or some coupons for the formula at the grocery store. Since the average can of formula is around ten to fifteen dollars, this is one nice free gift.

Mothers can also receive free diaper samples. You might only get one or two diapers per brand but it all adds up. Plus those extra diapers work great for backup diapers in the car, at grandma's, or simply for when you run out and cannot make it to the store. Those free diaper samples work much better than a washcloth and duck tape.

There are many more items that you can get for free. All you have to do is look in the right places and send them your information. Remember, you cannot get all of that wonderful totally free baby stuff unless they know where to send it to.

So where do you go? Where do you look? And who do you have to kiss-up to in order to snag some of this great free stuff? Well, you go online. You look on websites and you do not have to kiss-up to anyone.

Start by typing "free baby stuff" into a major search engine and start reading through the sites that come up. There are many sites out there that are dedicated to listing all of the totally free baby stuff that they can find, so that you and other mother's do not have to spend hours upon hours looking for some coupons.

And do not be alarmed if these companies want to know your name and address. Remember, they have to ship your free stuff to you. Also, they may ask for the age of your baby, the age of any other children you have in the home and maybe even if you would be interested in receiving updates and newsletters from them.

Get started filling it all out as most samples will take anywhere from ten days to six weeks to receive. Even if you have not yet delivered your baby, as long as you have a due date you can begin to request the free baby stuff.
