Top Ten Nursery Themes

Top Ten Nursery Themes

Are you still unsure of your baby nursery decorations? There are so many designs which you want to use but of course, you only have to choose one. So how do you choose a theme that you will want your baby to have? Remember that your baby’s nursery is the first place that your child will be exposed to. You need to choose a theme that will best suit your baby. You also need to remember that your baby will stay in his nursery almost all the time when he is awake, so make sure that you pick a theme that will be pleasing to you and your baby.

Top ten baby nursery decorations that you might want to consider are:

1. Color themes are one of the simplest yet most effective designs. These are the designs used to denote gender differences for babies.  Pink and purple are chosen for baby girls while blue and green are for baby boys. For unisex themes, you may stick to neutral colors of beige, cream or white.

2. Cute animals including farm animals can be a popular choice. You can choose a room filled with elephants, birds, dogs, ducks, cats, dogs and other animals. Animals are a good way to decorate since there are so many toys designed after animals that you can use for your baby’s room.

3. A whimsical theme can also work for your baby. Paint seahorses, shells, mermaids or starfishes. Keep the colors light and soft that will relax your baby.

4. Celestial themes such as the stars, moons, sun can mimic the sky and put it inside your baby’s room. Your baby can wake up to the sun and sleep through the stars. Since your baby still cannot appreciate the sky in the morning or at night, you can now bring it to your baby.

5. Themes following the elements earth, wind, fire, earth or water can be really a soothing baby nursery decoration. As long as these are done in moderation, these can really be effective nursery themes.

6. Famous fairy tale characters like princesses from Disney can also be an inspiration for your baby’s room. Princess designs can really be perfect for baby girls. You may also want to choose a Barbie themed room. Barbie products offer a lot of thing that you may use as baby nursery decorations.

7. Cartoon characters such as Looney tunes characters, sponge bob, Mickey Mouse and other cartoons can also be used as a nursery theme. These provide a wide range of choices from which you can choose from.

8. Mosaic and abstracts may work in minimal amounts only because babies cannot understand these themes. For them, these are just added color which can really bring out the room’s designs.

9. A playground theme will be a perfect theme that will allow your child to get a feel of the outside world. They can have a playground of their own in their rooms while they still cannot go out of the house.

10. Lastly, a room with no theme may work out for you. If you find it such a hassle to redecorate your baby’s room when he grows up, then you may choose this option. This can allow you to easily switch from cribs to beds when the time comes.

The Importance of Baby Bedding

Baby bedding is important to every single mother-to-be. Now that you're about to have a baby, there's a few things that need to be taken care of. Of course, you must have the necessities like bottles, diapers, and cute little clothes. However, up until now, you may have overlooked the area of baby bedding. Why is getting quality bedding important for your baby? Can't you just get some pink sheets?

If only it were that simple. Having a good cradle bedding set can be a lifesaver…literally. Let's examine a few things that come with standard bedding sets.

One of the more important features of the cradle bedding set is the bumpers that go around the crib. These are essential for any crib. They keep your baby safe inside their crib. This keeps them from being stuck or even falling between the bars of the crib. It also softens the edges of the crib. This prevents them from hitting their head on the rails. The bumpers are very important to the safety of your baby.

Another great feature of most crib bedding sets is the mobile that comes with them. It will usually match whichever set you purchase and it serves a great purpose. The mobile will usually feature characters or pieces from the rest of the set. This helps tie it into the overall theme. The movement and music can entertain your baby just long enough for them to drift off to sleep. Even if they do only sleep for two hours at a time, this will help you tremendously. They play the sweetest lullabies to keep your baby calm. A good mobile can change your baby's mood from fussy to docile in a matter of moments.

The dust ruffle is also a great thing for the overall appearance of your crib. It gives it a more finished look and blends the crib set with the rest of the room. It helps to hide the under portion of the crib, which provides a more complete feeling.

These features will all go together seamlessly. The entire baby bedding set will help you achieve the look that you want in your nursery. Everyone wants their baby's room to be special. With a matching baby, bedding set you can achieve just that. Be sure to give your baby what they deserve. You want only the best for them and a quality bedding set proves that is exactly what they are getting.

Unique Boy Nursery Themes

What fun knowing that you have a baby boy on the way.  Now it’s time to design the nursery.  There are so many baby bedding options and nursery themes that this task can seem quite overwhelming.  It might be easiest if you pick a theme first and then find those fun accessories to pull it all together.

It seems like everyone uses sports for a little boy’s nursery.  Perhaps you might want something unique, or more expressive of your family’s decorating style.

Doggy Theme

Have you thought about a dog theme?  There are many baby bedding packages with this motif.  To make it more personal, create artwork using your actual dog.  Create a paint paw print (Better do it outside!) and frame it along with a picture of your pet.  Copy the print and make a stencil to add a border to the room.

Doggy Accessories

Add an assortment of adorable puppy stuffed animals to shelving or bookcases, and add dog-type seats or pillows to chairs.  This is a fun motif sure to last all through childhood.  The same sort of thing can be done for cats or birds or fish.

Dominoes Theme

Another excellent nursery decorating scheme is the game of Dominoes.  Black and white is known to visually stimulate infants, so the room is educational as well as tasteful!  Get black and white crib bedding, or white with black polka dots.

The walls can be painted white.  Accent one wall with black polka dots to continue this theme.

Dominoes Accessories

Look around at garage sales, thrift stores and on the Internet for vintage domino sets.  Cut the cover out and frame it.  It’s also fun to create paper dominoes and use them as matting for a framed print of your family.

Pillows can be all black and white, or polka dots.  Throw in some bright red if you want additional color in the room.

You can also adapt this for your favorite game.  Think checkers or chess or Monopoly or Chutes and Ladders and you have the start of a fun nursery.

Jungle Theme

How about a jungle theme?  Paint the walls in green tones, using curving stripes if you feel creative.  Frame pictures of wild animals from National Geographic or travel magazines.  Baby bedding of animal prints and the addition of stuffed giraffes, chimps and lions create an easy-to-do, exotic look for the nursery.

Farm Theme

Perhaps your little boy would like a farm theme in his nursery.  Paint one wall barn red, using white for the trim.  Crib bedding can be tractors or animals or just a simple golden hay color.  Add a painted fence to one wall, and frame a collage of farm tools or barnyard animals with your child’s picture in the center.  Add a few horses and cows – stuffed, of course - and your little one is enjoying the old-fashioned country life.

If you’d like to decorate on only one wall, consider painting the silhouette of a big, strong tree.  Make it a family tree, with a branch for each part of your family.  Add pictures in frames, all alike or of different green colors like leaves or one uniform bright color like a fruit or a blossom.  What a nice way to display pictures of all your loved ones in the baby nursery!  And crib bedding can pick up the colors of the “leaves” or “blossoms” for a unified look.  Add throw pillows of matching colors, and paint the trim to match.

Remember, your baby boy will be too young for many years to appreciate what decorating theme is used for his nursery or crib bedding.  You might as well make it just what you and your family would most enjoy.  Use your imagination, have a little fun, enjoy the colors and let the creative energy flow.  But most of all, enjoy the room with your new baby boy!

If you are expecting a new little girl, no doubt you are excited about her coming into your life. While you probably can't wait until she arrives, you also will want to make sure that you are prepared before the due date. One of the most important things to get ready is the baby room, and you'll want to pick out beautiful bedding and matching accessories for the perfect nursery. Lucky for you, there are plenty of themes available; in fact, there are so many that you may find it difficult to pick out the right one. So, if you need a few ideas for inspiration, here are some great themes to consider using for a girl's nursery.

Designs By Laura Ashley

If you are looking for great baby girl bedding, you may want to consider the bedding designs of Laura Ashley - a perennial favorite and afforadably priced, too. There are a variety of colors and patterns that you can choose from, mainly focused around beautiful pastels. You can find these collections on the internet and in stores such as Target.

Lady Bug Theme

Another great idea for your nursery is the lady bug theme. While an absolutely adorable theme, there is a possibility that the red, black, and white that usually forms the color scheme might be too stimulating for your daughter's resting place. To counter this, try to avoid highly contrasting designs or large patches of black and red (no giant ladybugs!). If you do choose this theme, you can do a lot of the decorating yourself - buy a ladybug bedding set, and use stencils to decorate the walls.

Various Character Themes

There are a variety of great character themes that will make a wonderful choice in the you little girl's new room. Options include Winnie the Pooh, Precious Moments, Disney Princess, Mickey Sweet Dreams, Hello Kitty, or even Snoopy. There are so many great character themes that you can find, so you'll be sure to find the perfect one for your new sweetheart.

Princess Theme

The princess theme is understandably very popular for baby girls. No doubt she'll be your little princess, so why not carry out the theme in her room? You can find beautiful princess themed bedding, furniture, accessories and more. It's very easy to decorate the nursery in this theme, and you can paint murals or borders on the walls that will go along with the theme as well. Consider even making the room like a castle, complete with everything you can imagine in the princess theme. No doubt this will be a room that everyone, especially your new baby girl, will end up loving.

Patchwork and Plaid Themes

Patchwork themes and plaid themes are also great ideas when you are decorating for a baby girl. Simply pick out a color that you want to go with, and then you can use accenting colors to go along with it. Painting the room will be simple, since you should be able to easily match the colors with paint. There are many great themes of this style to choose from and you can easily find them on the internet.

Celestial Themes

Going with a celestial theme for your baby girl nursery is a wonderful idea and it's very easy to find great baby bedding in these themes. You'll be able to send your baby to dreamland with ease when you use this type of a theme. Some ideas include constellations, moons, planets, the sun, stars, and other things you'll find in the heavens. Whites, pastels, and blues are great colors to use for these types of themes. This is one of the few themes that you will want to seriously consider decoration the ceiling, either with paint or glow in the dark stars (be mindful of safety precautions). There are many great wall decorations and bedding choices available in this theme, so you'll easily end up falling in love with a celestial nursery to welcome your new baby girl into the world.

As you can see, there are definitely a variety of great themes available when it comes to choosing a nursery theme. With so many to choose from, it can be difficult to make a choice - just let your eyes and heart guide you. If you are planning to have more children, you might want to consider a gender-neutral theme that can be re-used. If the nursery will become your daughter's room as she grows up, think about going with a theme that she can continue to enjoy as she grows older. Take your time, consider your baby girl, and consider one of these great themes.
